Without concrete slab preparation, your floor is destined to fail
The most important part of laying any new epoxy floor is preparation. If the concrete floor is not prepared properly, the epoxy coat will not bond well with the concrete, reducing the longevity dramatically. The metallic epoxy requires a clean and porous surface to adhere properly.
The first step of the process is mechanically grinding the concrete floor. This removes all dirt, grime, oil, stains, etc. It also helps create the right concrete profile, by opening the concrete pores.
We then move on to repair all cracks and holes in the concrete slab.
Once we are happy with the look of the concrete slab, we move on to apply epoxy primer to the floor. If the surface is not properly sealed the first time, we will have to apply a second coat of primer.
The third step is to apply a Metallic Self Level Basecoat. This is where the magic happens.
The final step is to apply a clear polyurethane topcoat.
When installed correctly and with proper care metallic epoxy flooring can last anything between 10 to 20+ years. Areas which experience high foot traffic, such as commercial settings can experience a shorter life span, however when the floors are maintained correctly the life span can be extended dramatically.
