Urethane Mortar Food Grade Flooring

RGV Concrete Stain is the Rio Grande Valley contractor of choice for Urethane Mortar flooring also known as Urethane Cement and Urethane Concrete

What is Urethane Mortar Flooring

From extreme temperature changes to exposure to hot oil splatter, continuously moist conditions, and metal pan drops, Urethane Mortar is up to every challenge that a commercial kitchen or manufacturing facility has to offer.

Urethane mortar, also know as urethane cement is a 3 component polyurethane concrete formula, best suited for heavy-duty environments that require high resistance to impact, abrasion, thermal shocks, chemicals, and organic food acids. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria and microorganisms.

RGV's Urethane Concrete flooring is ideal for any facility that endures constant exposure to chemicals, alkali, animal fats, and hot oils, such as commercial kitchens, processing plants, cold storage, manufacturing facilities, and pharmaceutical plants.

Urethane Cement Flooring Benefits

The physical properties of urethane mortar systems are far superior to that of epoxy systems when it comes to specific applications such as heavy-duty industrial food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, breweries or meat, fish, and dairy processing plants.

Quick turnaround

If you are running a food processing plant, commercial kitchen, or pharmaceutical company, time is of the essence. Urethane cement has a quick turnaround time of 6 to 8 hours, meaning your facility will be closed only for a couple of hours.

Chemical resistant

Urethane cement can withstand harsh chemicals, alkaline and animal fats.

Anti-microbial and hypoallergenic

Urethane cement has anti-bacterial properties. It prevents germ build-up, which can infiltrate the equipment, spoil produce, and even lead to food-borne diseases.

Excellent abrasion resistance

The combination of urethane resin and kiln-dried sand creates a robust product that can handle heavy foot and machine traffic. Moving heavy food trolleys will not scratch or marks your floor.

Moisture tolerant

The constant need of washing the floors and wall of food facilities, require the need of an impervious floor like Urethane Cement. With its non-porous surface combined with coving, water and other liquids will not be able to get underneath the floor. This also makes it easy to clean and able to be pressured cleaned.

Thermal shock resistance

Urethane mortar is capable of handling instant temperature fluctuations ranging from -40 degrees F up to 250 degrees F and retains its physical characteristics. This makes it ideal for cold storage and commercial kitchens.

How to apply Urethane Mortar Flooring

Without concrete slab preparation, your floor is destined to fail

The most important part of laying any new Urethane Mortar floor is preparation. If the concrete floor is not prepared properly, the urethane will not bond well with the concrete, reducing the longevity dramatically. Urethane mortar flooring requires a clean and porous surface to adhere properly.

The first step of the process is mechanically grinding the concrete floor. This removes all dirt, grime, oil, stains, and impurities. It also helps create the right concrete profile, by opening the concrete pores.

We then move on to repair all cracks and holes in the concrete slab.
Once we are happy with the look of the concrete slab, we move on to applying the base coat of urethane cement and broadcast it with kiln-dried sand, to achieve the desired thickness and slip resistance.
Once the base coat is fully cured, we remove the loose sand and apply a urethane cement topcoat.
Once fully cured, you can return to business.
